Live sport is amazing. The atmosphere. The excitement. The players. And of course, the emotion. It brings together communities, gives players and staff opportunities to grow, and is a key part of modern life. So of course, it’s one of my favourite things to shoot.

Naturally, the highest level of the most popular sports gets a lot of focus. But for me, the best sport happens in the suburbs, in the local parks and recreation centres. Each week, volunteers and community clubs give up their time and energy to give everyday kids the chance to explore their passions and grow their skills. And while everyone loves it when they win, the overriding feeling you get is that everyone is excited just to be out there and playing. The score often doesn’t matter. But the feeling of pride for parents and kids alike is almost magical.

Which is why I just love helping these teams capture those moments. The players love seeing themselves in action. The parents cherish the memories of their children doing what they love. The clubs are proud to see the positive impact they’re having on so many peoples lives. Which makes it all worthwhile.

The other benefit of youth sports is the sense of comradery and belonging that the community brings. For team sports it’s about the team, playing your part for the success of the whole. For individual sports it’s about cheering on your competitors to do their best while challenging yourself to do the same. Regardless, the sport is what brings everyone together. And I love capturing it all.
