If you don’t go, you’ll never know

Day two of the Margaret River adventure started with an early campsite breakfast before hitting the road to hopefully find a wave to surf. Quick tip - always go camping with a qualified chef, the food is amazing - thanks bro! Checking the usual suspects on the way, we eventually decided to just go and check out one of the roads that I usually just drive straight past.

Now I’m not going to name it here, because the locals will chase me off the beach if I do. But suffice to say I’ve been coming to this area for over 20 years and never even knew this break existed. We pulled into the carpark (gravel and sand, but still more accessible than a lot of places down here) and were stunned to see these long left-handers peeling off, with the longboarders in the water making it look easy.

Lefthander starting to break.

We sat and watched for a good 20 minutes before deciding that our skills weren’t good enough to avoid the rocks, but I was just stoked to find that this place existed. I was especially happy that despite not having a long lense, I was able to get reasonably close to the action without fear of being washed off the rocks and into the water (there are signs everywhere along this coast warning tourists about the dangers of King Waves, something I have absolute respect for).

A little snap to line up the next section

So even though I didn’t get wet, and we didn’t stay long, we left very happy with how our unplanned detour worked out. We will definitely be back.
